I think it is because, in modern society, we are supposed to base most of our thoughts and actions on scientific fact, and be rational rather than emotional. That is where our values lie.
But repressed emotions become stronger and more dangerous.
It is in out human nature to desire to be loved and to give love. This is still what most of us are looking for. We are still devastated when we think our hearts are broken, but we have to put on a brave face and get on with out lives.
What we are really looking for, and the only thing that can really satisfy us is the love of our Creator God, who loves us unconditionally, and who does not break our hearts ( but that dowsn't mean we won't have our hearts broken in life),
Hope that helps:>)

There's no stigma, at least that I know of, but then no one likes to feel like crap.

There's an old band from the eighties called the jesus and mary chain. They did a song called "everybody loves you when your down". You should listen to it.
