I have a 6 month old boy who is on the higher side of the scale for his age. He is 20 lbs, and 29 inches long. We started him on baby food at 5 months old. He eats cereal, veggies and fruits and we can now introduce him to meats. However, every article I find says something different about how much cereal and jar food he should be getting each day. He is down to four, 9 oz bottles a day which supposedly should start to decrease as his food intake increases. I'm curious to hear from other moms with babies of this age to see what your little one's schedule is and what they're eating.

I too had a bigger baby boy =)

He just didn't get full enough on formula alone, nor would he eat baby food or cereal.

He ate what I ate just in smaller bite size. He would have a bottle in the morning 9 ozs of formula, then for breakfast fruit and dry cereal. another bottle around 10 am or so. Lunch he had want ever the big kids ate at his daycare. Another bottle after his nap and a snack.

Dinner was what ever I ate and one more bottle before bed time.

He was always a very healthy baby who was the perfect weight for his height.

His doctors said they wouldn't recommend this for any 6 month old but he was early developer and past the heigh/weight charts.

He is now a big 4 year old and the size of an average 6 year old

My son is also 6 months. He eats 2 jars of cereal, 1 vegetable, 1 meat(such as green beans with turkey baby food in the jar), and usually 1 fruit a day. He also drinks about 30 ounces of formula a day. He weighs 18 pounds.

Our six month old is breastfed, so I am not sure how many ounces she gets at each nursing, but this is our schedule:

7:30am- wakes up and nurses

9:30- BREAKFAST - 1/4 cup cereal with 1/2 stage two jar of fruit mixed in.

11am - nurses

1pm - LUNCH - 1 full jar of stage two veggies

3pm - nurses

5pm- nurses

6:30pm - DINNER - 1/4 cup cereal with 1/2 jar stage two fruits mixed in

7:30pm - nurses

and then she nurses once in the middle of the night.

She tends to be on the higher side of the scale too, but I dont think she is quite as large as your son...

my 6 month old daughter nurses in the morning, 3 hours later eats 1/2 jar fruits or veggies with 1 Tbsp oatmeal mixed in and then nurses, 3 hours later nurses, 3 hours later eats 1/2 jar fruits or veggies with 1Tbsp oatmeal mixed in and then nurses, 3 hours later nurses before bed . She's 25 3/4 inches and almost 16lbs. I'm completely at a loss as to how much she's supposed to be eating, too. I just am winging it and if she gives off hunger cues, I'll feed her more. She's pretty content with this schedule. Hope this helps.

Breastmilk or formula should continue to be his main source of nutrition for the ENITRE first year. The solids are mostly for fun and practice in addition to the breastmilk or formula. Don't push solids. Take it slow.

Talk to his doctor. That would be the best way to know what's right for him.
