well the greatest ever batsman is sachin tendulkar, NOT BRADMAN. let me tell u something, back in the 1930's there was no such thing as swing. there was the ball which was straight or the ball that was spinning. bradman nearly all his runs against england. he play 2 tests against india and averaged 12. bradman could not play spin very well. Sachin has played against everyone, scored century's in odi and tests against everyone, played when the like of waqar and wasim were swinging the ball, has smashed shane warne the best spinner ever for so many sixes. he has made 13 odi centurys against aus the best team in the world. he made 241 vs the aus, in aus, without playing 1 cover drive, which is his best shot. so sachin is the greatest, but 1 thing i am sad to say is he will never be as good as he was between 1990 and 2003. rahul dravid, mr yousuff, ponting and jayawardne are prob the top 4 batsman at the moment on form

There are two batsmen that stand out above the rest. The one is Brian Lara from the west indies, the other Sachin Tendulkar from india.

Lara is a living legend as he has held the world record for highest score in a test innings twice. He holds the current record with a score of 400 runs. The left hander's previous hold was with 375 runs.

The other batsmen, Sachin Tendulkar. has a higher average per innings than Brian Lara and has the more runs than anyone else in the history of the game. He is also a bit more consistent than Lara, but less axtravagant.

Lara and Tendulkar are on the way out.
As an Englishman this next bit is hard to say but Ricky Ponting is probably the best batsman and has been for the last two or three years.

sachin or dravid. cannot be sure that bradman could have been the best cause no lbw but sachin is more cinsistent and has better footwork and shots, dravid is mr reliable and ponting has to break some records which he will.
