I find it hard to watch a lot of TV, because casts are so insanely beautiful, that I don't believe situations anymore. It's a joke!
For example look at 'LOST', those people are meant to be stranded on a desert island. They would be malnourished, have peeling skin, greasy hair.....but they look great! How am i meant to believe the scenario as a result. Look at 'The O.C', am I really meant to sympathise when Mischa Barton's character is crying herself to sleep over some minor tragedy. For god's sake you have a body most people would kill for, you live in the most exclusive part of California, and you've got boys fighting over you...Boo hoo!
How am i meant to believe these situations are realistic and reflective of real life, if the cast look like they've come out of a sports illustrated catalogue. I'm not saying their should be ugly people, just average looking people in many roles.
How am i meant to take a teen drama serious when none of the 'teens' have teenage spots. It's crazy!

A lot of you say you don't wanna see ugly people. But what about normal/average looking people, that's what I wanna see. My rant is mainly at US TV. Yeah Eastenders etc. does have more normal people in it.
But the crunch is that you cannot recreate a real life setting, and have unrealistic people. IN REAL LIFE, people have spots, bad hair days, cut themselves shaving. Life is not immaculate, but people on shows like OC are!

yes, because they dont look like that off camera, and it makes people with low self esteem feel they SHOULD look like that,
they dont,
we dont,
ever walked down the street and see ANYONE as good looking as a person from a catalogue? video? movie? tv programme?
nope,
and you never will.
as for the realism question, yeah, i agree,
when they wake up in full make up, and no one ever has tram lines down their faces?!
hair is always just a flick and its once again perfect..
everyone slates reality shows on this site, but at least they are REAL, you see them for how they really ARE
until the show is over, and the magazines get hold of them.
do a comparison, its nuts

Here here - its about time some of these tv people understand that ugly people live in the world too. Even most of the so called ugly people on tv are also good looking.
Get a grip.
Hurley out of lost not losing any weight - bullshit - even he would lose weight after all that time on an island

That's why I don't watch those shows. I prefer situation-comedy.
I do enjoy reality TV, but I agree that we need to see more average people in movies, tv, and magazines.
Our teens are always feeling inadequate because they are comparing themselves to these fake beautiful people.
Have you ever watched Tyra Bank's talk show? She is sooo real. She has done shows where she removes her bra, where she shows all of the touch-ups they do with her photographs (the before and afters). She also has a teen girls camp, called T-Zone, teaching teenage girls to develop sovereignty and confidence..... ya gotta love her!

Yeah, but ugly people don't make good viewing.
Although I agree they could put a few more spotty teenagers in programmes for a more realistic touch or the bad hair day Mum of 4 trying to get her kids to school, screaming and shouting at them, or is that too real??

TV is a form of escapism, we don't want to look at normal people on screen, we see those all day in real life.

The cast looks like they've just stepped out of sports illustrated because they just have.
I'm afraid it's only make believe. most people aren't beautiful, just ordinary.

if you don't like it, then don't watch TV.
that's just how the entertainment business is and probably how it always will be. beautiful people pull in audiences so the entertainment business uses them to attract people's attention.
although i agree with you about the teenage stuff. i hate how they have THIRTY year olds playing 17 year olds.

My suggestion to you is: Don't watch tv! because it is always going to be unrealistic because its tv not real life. If you want real life, live yours, instead of watching tv.

I feel you, but do you really want to watch a show with a cast of people who are on dogtime?
