I have yarn and knitting needles, I would just love a start off point. Am I better off watching someone, or going to good web sites? Any ideas? Thank you in advance!

Some people do well with written instructions and illustrations, and others learn better by watching someone else.

This web site has free videos and is an excellent resource for learning how to knit.

I myself learned from library books. I was a kid when I started so I used what is still my favorite book, Ursula von Wartburg's "Workshop book of knitting". It's a book that was written so clearly because it was intended for children to learn from. From there I started reading all the magazines.

Best to learn on your own, I'd say, if you can do it. Otherwise be on the look for community groups and classes.

It might be better to purchase a book
with step by step instructions. This
way if you forget you'll have a reference.
If you don't want to purchase it. Check
one out at your library this way you can
see some other books on knitting to
inspire you. Have fun with your project
happy knitting.

I would ask an older person or call a nursing home and ask the activities director if you could come in and adopt a grandparent to teach you how to knit.

Check your local craft supply store, places like Michaels run classes they may have a knitting class coming up.
Also check your local community center listings they may also run classes.

I feel the same way. I was actually looking for some websites. Here they are:

http://www.learntocrochet.com/instructions_kn.php3
http://www.bhg.com/home/Knitting-Instructions.html
http://www.ethknits.co.uk/frames/frame.htm

Hopefully this will help you. Good luck.

you can teach yourself but I think it is easier to watch someone else do it because you can ask questions
