Not true my fine friend
I would not have considered anyone from the middle ages to be all that intelligent, yet there were great philosophers then...
OK don't kill me on spelling ---
Aerostotle, Sir Isaac Newton, Scrotese
Just to name a few.
I would imagine that when the first cave man saw fire he must have wondered about it too.

Unified thought, conformity and a lemming type, politically Correct mindset & attitude is what stifles the ability to be clever. We need the experiences of both a negative and positive nature and to have the maturity to both respect diversity and live along side it, in order to be creative enough to deal with life in all aspects of living and experience as a whole. Rough and ready is what breeds cleverness and creativity... Not walking on egg shells around emotionally immature idiots and being carefull to weigh and measure every little thing we do. That kills the spirit which facilitates the clever.

We needed to be clever enough to build shelter, make tools, hunt and work in groups, make fire, etc. Most importantly we needed to be able to adapt to change, make new innovations and have a language. Of course that helped us to survive through the ice age, but when it warmed up we had enough knowledge and technology to spread out and improve our lives, at the expense of others and the planet.
Humans are a warlike species, and we are now all threatened by our intelligence because of nukes and the like, not to mention the environmental damage caused by our expansion and improved lives. While our intelligence may be construed as bad now, consider that Neanderthals were hardly any less intelligent than us at all, they had culture and even religion, so without it maybe we would have suffered their fate.
If we were more stupid I think it less likely we would be able to survive in the long run, and wouldn't have been able to survive thus far.

hmmm, that's kinda true...Humans are Not clever in a sense...this sense is not knowing how the universe actually begun...if there's a God etc, but we are extremely cleaver to think of inventions and things that no other species could think of. Some of the things that human beings create are amazing! But I think that God has given humans a certain range...a certain limit to our thinking....and that's where we stop, if we try to think further, our brain would most probably get confused or tired and we will never know the real answer to the original question.

Alright, now my head is killing me. You think too much. It's not that we're too clever or not clever enough.. it's just that humans have the ability to question. It's on of our gifts from Adam and Eve. We are allowed to see something and wonder about it.

1. cleverness (intelligence ) is a statistical measure of performance across a variety of tests. It was developed by an english psychologist..it is therefore man made. Man has developed, through this 'intelligence' nuclear arms /weapons/biological agents that have been responsible for the destruction of hundreds of thousands of lives Chemical agents that we use as part of everyday life are systematically destroying the natural balance of our planet......Now that aint very clever is it?

We are mammals, animals. But we differ from the other animals, we have speech and language to not only communicate but to think with. Other animals act on instinct. They do things without thinking - just like we do when we change gear in the car or scratch your ****. We are only species to use toilet paper or tissue. The only species to slowly kill ourselves with cigarettes and alcohol. The only species that has the ability to destroy the world we live in. However, a mouse in a nest with it's mate and family is probably happier than any human can even begin to imagine.

We have the capacity and potential to be extremely clever. But what is 'clever'. Is it the ability to have an in-depth knowledge/intellect?
We are as clever as we want to be.
