Have you been seeing someone secretly so that it will come as a complete surprise to your mother?
If I was unaware that my daughter had been seeing someone, I think it'd come as a shock to be told out of the blue that she was getting married.
Can you invite your mom to lunch and discuss this? Then at another time introduce him to your mom? Maybe take things in steps so she isn't too shocked all at once.
