Wouldn't the sunlight heat up the blinds as much at it would hitting the floor instead. Doesn't the heat from the blinds keep the room the same temp?

Technically, closing the blinds does not cool the room, but it does result in the room not getting as hot as it would with the blinds open.

I say it does not help cool a room because you are not actively removing any heat from the room, which is cooling (such as circulating a cold substance to absorb heat, then transporting that out of the room). You are preventing some heat (as infrared energy from the sun) from entering the room which results in less heating, and thus a lower temperature.

As you noted, the light still comes through the window and hits the blinds, which will make the blinds warmer than they would be if they are open. However, since all of that energy would have entered the room anyway, by closing the blinds, some of that energy that is entering the room will be reflected back out the window. The energy that is reflected back off of the blind, back out the window, is energy that did enter the home, but has now left and will not contribute to heating the room.

This concept is similar to sun-shades you see people use in cars. Anything that can be done to reflect heat energy back out of the window will help. Choosing a blind with a bright or shiny appearance will generally reflect more energy back out the room than dark material.

White blinds are best. Dark absorbs heat. White or light color reflects the rays.
Of course it does keep the room cooler. If there is a decent breeze, crack the window and bring shade down to meet the level of window. Blocking direct sunlight yet allowing the breeze to come through.
I believe it is also somewhat physiological. A darker room seems to give the feeling of being cooler.

Keeping the blinds closed does stop the direct sunlight from coming in. The blinds do get hot but that is it. It does work.

heat flows in amonts or packets of energy called radiation.now when u close the blinds these packets are obstructed and hence they get absorbed by the blinds.but the heat on blinds is not tha exact amount since the temperature of the room also matters.this means that yes it helps cool a room, but the heat on blinds is not the exact amount.

it really is been my adventure to have them dealing with up that may direct the nice and cozy temperature in the route of the ceiling. otherwise, in the adventure that they are dealing with down, the nice and cozy temperature coming from the window will be compelled downward and all of us comprehend warmth rises, that may make for a warmth room.
