I can't bring myself to say yes, but it definitely gave him a boost as the country came together in a time of crisis. I do not know if he misinterpreted this to mean we supported him and all his decisions because of who he IS, when it really meant we supported him because of the office he HAS. The results since have shown the difference between the two.

I think if Al Gore and the democrats had been found to intentional disrupt the 2000 elections and mess with the votes; that would have been the best thing for his career. As it was, 9/11 artificially boosted his approval and ego, and while it made for short term gains, I do not think history will look kindly on his actions. It may be presumptive to say that, but I think history will view Clinton more favorablly than Bush, and THAT would take some doing!

The moral of this story is that George HW Bush was a better President than his ratings and popular opinion, whereas George W Bush is a wrose President than his ratings and popular opinion.

No, not at all. It was a horrible moment for him and for all of us Americans (well, the non-idiot ones). It had a devastating impact on the economy, coming on the heels of the Clinton recession. It also forced the president to change focus on combating terrorism, instead of focusing on changing Social Security into something sane, or making the tax rate reductions permanent, or eliminating the death tax and the capital gains tax (sane fiscal policy), etc.

No, it set off a series of actions that were actually politically risky -the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were not exactly without controversy and risk, but were the right thing to do, despite the twitterings of the naysayers. This took moral courage and a belief in doing the right thing, regardless of the personal consequences. This is called 'leadership'.

Only Clinton went and whined that he'd wished he'd had something like this happen, so he could show how great he was. That was a disgusting and pathetic thing to say. He had ample opportunity to do something in the world - he just never had the courage or conviction or the disregard for personal gain to do it.

If there's no 9/11; something else will! Politicians are great exploit! That's how Bush became President. Not once, but twice. He was the better person at that time!

in my opinion , yes . because he used this event to do what he want in the world , so he attack many countries like Afghanistan and Iraq . but in the future it could be the worst event in his career because he should respect his population feelings and stop wasting the soldiers blood by taking all American soldiers back home . people in the future will recognize that there sons killed for the desire of one government . so until now yes this event is the best thing could have ever happened for Bush's career

Prior to September 11th, Bush was hardly captain popularity.

Afterwards, he got to adopt the 'War president' posture, which is normally good for obtaining a compliant congress, and often re-election.

On that basis, yes, it was a good thing for him personally.

The only thing that would have been better was for the entire day to have been averted by a hairs breadth (which would mean he could do exactly the same, but without any economic damage or casualties).

Well, lets put it this way, it took people's minds off WMD so Bush could enter Iraq . If people were not so upset with thinking that Hussen might harm us next he would have never gotten away with going there

Yes. His entire campaign has been about fighting terrorism. It was a terrible event which never should have happened but Bush is a politican and used it to his advantage.
