I don;t understand why a great guitarist would want to own a guitar by another great guitarist??..Can you imagine Jimmy Hendrix wanting to own a guitar played by Eric Clapton or Jimmy Page. There was an article about Gary Moore in 'Guitar Technique' mag 2 or 3 months ago about him selling it on...and how he and Peter where great friends. I Think it was more to do with Gary dealing with 'nostalgia' demons, than for any great benefits from the sale he would receive personally

Some guitars age well, others dont and becoming living pieces of art that require alot of love and attention , time and money, it probably started to go around the bridge and pick ups making it a nightmare to set up and tune. i would also presume that the orginal circuitiry would be very delicate and something that you would not want shaking in the back of a tour bus.

or he might just thought is not keen to play green

You are only a custodian of a great guitar. The money just proves that the next guardian takes his job seriously.
