Why are the English having to be dragged kicking and screaming in to the 24 hour society?

Its here - 9-5 is gone or going !
Why can we only look back all the time ?
And most of all - Why are the English so bloody mean with our cities and towns infrastructure - and absolutely obsessed with charity !
E.g. why should we have to give blood - if they want to pay me for it - I'd be at the hospital every bloody day - and then there would be no shortage would there - Why can't they get that through there thick heads ?

In America the pay for blood - I know this has had it's problems - people getting AIDS and all but if for instance you don't have much money and you need extra funds and you could get paid for your blood - what on earth is wrong with that ? Especially on a regular basis - the hospitals then would be able to rely on supplies, knowing who would reliablly turn up - and then they could make plans and even export it to other countries where there are also shortages - do you know the situation is so cronic that one particular university is trying to make artificial blood - when common sense dictates that all we have to do is refine the vetting and checking of blood and bloody PAY PEOPLE FOR IT !!!!

mediahoney - don't you worry you head about having it when you need it - if you paid for it and a reasonable amount - you wouldn't have to worry about supply - you'd probably have a surplus !

The service industry in britain is the fastest growing economic sector. Unfortunately, we are adopting an american commercial view - the bottom line is more important than service, employees or customers. No longer can you get a decent repair; products are designed to fail after 2 years so we have to replace. We have become a Nescafe society - instant gratification. I dont believe that a 24 hour society is sustainable. We have all become materialistic. And it started with McDonalds - remember the advert telling us in big words how we could get a burger AND chips AND A COKE for ONLY 2.99? That was in the days a £1 could buy you 20 birdseye burgers and 2 dozen rolls and a bottle of cola. American commercialism has devalued our money - just think pizza hut - 15 quid for italian cheese on toast!

Becuase if they paid us for our blood how would that be funded? Increase your tax? Didnt think so.

Transport, 24hour transport again would require an increase to fairs.

The problem is you cannot have all this and expect it for free. It costs money and many business's exist to make money.

I agree more should be open longer, especially sundays but religion dictates that nothing should ever open so were lucky to get what we have. (I hate religion, I say open all hours and let the people decide).

Money, thats all it comes down to is money. Other european cities have better infrastructure but thats because they have much MUCH higher taxes, its a lot worse over the pond my friend.

I'm all for capitalism. But all things should be kept in line with prevailing culture. If it works for you, why bother?

As for paying for blood, it can get very expensive for nonprofits to operate. Adding the burden of paying for blood "donations" could make it impossible to get the level of donations needed in times of crisis.

The United States is one of the most charitable nations in the world. Our foreign policies may suck, but the American people are a generous lot.
