im a professional golfer, im 19 yrs old and iam struggling to get myself motivated to continue to play and practice. i used to be really dedicated practicing in the evening in the dark in sun snow and rain! now i dont seem to have the 'want' to get out here and do it but i still want to!!?? im really confused as to why cos its not like i dont want to-i really want to 'make it'. i stopped in the first place bcos i got into my first relationship and thought tht was more important than anything!!?? idiot!! haha a consequence was poor performance and a down spiral in motivation to improve! trying to get myself back into the groove and doing this again, i find it hard to set myself goals to acheive i was wondering on any other things i could do?

Don't be-rate yourself or negative talk yourself.

Keep focusing on the end goal, and not what's happening.. play over and over the end goal.. and talk to yourself with positive small things such as 'im getting there', 'every day getting better', 'it's OK, I'm making progress" etc..

Keep thinking about what you want.. not how you are going to do it.. think about WHY you want it.

I think your been far too hard on yourself, your not a robot but a human being, ask yourself if playing golf is what you really want to strive for in life, maybe a few months off might take the pressure off you and give you chance to try different things, your only 19 and have a good amount of time left to get where you want to be in life, just go with the flow and stop beating yourself up so much, life isn't always about setting goals you know as doing this only puts pressure on yourself and if you don't achieve them by set times you spiral out of control and feel useless, stop the pressure game with yourself and just relax and live life for yourself and not for goals or pressure.

Draw a line in the sand, draw an imaginary line, and work out everything that is stopping you for crossing the line to where you want to be, even plan it out in a written chart. A plan of what you want to do, what you need to achieve your goal and what you can do to get to your goal, how you can do it. Blot out all the distractions, even take a few days away from home, alone, not speaking with anyone to re-evaluate where you want to be in life, then get the focus, and if something comes along and it doesn't fit into the plan or takes you away from the plan, then don't do it! It will be hard, but to be a golf pro is a short lived thing, and if you are young, then you have time on your side as you can take part in the other things, relationships etc, later, when you have achieved your goals

Your just 19, if I were 19 I'd be 27yrs younger then I am and when I see what these professional golfers earn I would be very motivated. Where do you want to be when your 46yrs old?. Think about that and get your game back on track. For now think of no one but yourself.

You have to get back to form in stages. You can't just do it straight away. Work out what you need to practise and how long it's going to take. Accomplishing each stage will help to re-motivate you. You will start to get that sense of achievement back.

If you had a job you would have to be there at 8am and stay till 4 or 5.

Pretend this is your job. (and if you are a professional, it IS your job!)

Set your days and your hours to practice,
and then treat it EXACTLY as you would a job
.
If you don't go to work you get fired.
If you don't practice, you get worse...

discipline is the key to success in anything. whether you want to practice or not, you have to go out there and do it.

building discipline in golf will pay off in other areas of your life, because most other areas will also require discipline.

routine is what it is all about .SET your routine upp and let nothing interfere with your goals .
YOU may have a concentration problem creeping into your head .
THIS must be stopped and total concentration on the game must be maintained if you are ever to play proffesionally .
