I think there are a variety of answers to your question depending on what white person you ask. My opinion, they brought our ancestors over here unwillingly for the purpose of slave labor. They never in their wildest dream thought we would progress as much as we have, even though we still have a ways to go. They thought they had killed our spirit, broke our backs. Thanks to people like Martin Luther, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, we've come this far. There are still many people, and situations that are still holding us back, but we must still forge on. As far as the "tan thing", we come in many beautiful shades, from almost white to a polished black, and our color changes with the seasons, white is white. Envy.

I think a lot of it comes down to perceived attitude and many people (black and white) perceive African Americans to have a mega-serious attitude problem.

It's certainly not something found exlusively amongst white people. I've just returned from visiting different countries in Africa and many Africans don't like African Americans - although it's probably more accurate to say that they don't like what they stand for and the way they conduct themselves.

There are of course some people who are out and out racists and simply don't like a person because of the colour of their skin or their ethnicity. To these people the individual person is irrelevant and no matter how good or bad a person is they are going to dislike them simply because they are the wrong colour.

There are African Americans of all kinds but it tends to be those involved with the R 'n' B, rap and gangsta scenes that make it into the media limelight which falsely gives the impression that all African Americans are minded this way. I guess if any other ethnic group had adopted this lifestyle and attitude they'd be treated with the same contempt.

In short, and as a generalisation, it's something they've brought upon themselves. If it were simply to do with the colour of the skin then Africans would be shown the same level of contempt as African Americans.

I personally think Africans are fantastic people and more than anything it's the people that are the reason for me visiting different African countries and about to start building a house over there. I don't like African Americans with attitude - that's not because of the colour of the skin but because of their personality, I equally dislike all people who adopt a similar attitude regardless of colour.

I think Black Americans have always started trends. In fashion, dance, singing, amongst other things. You got white girls trying hard o shake there *** like the Sista's. You got the Girls wearing short short and hip huggers even though they got no *** or hips. The white boys are trying to be cool in the Hip Hop gear not realizing most white people don't look good in corn rows or dred locks! So don't try to act like Whites haven't been trying to emulate us! BUT...There is a But Black Americans do trip out with their stank attitudes! They say being black is an experience not a color or race. Well Why aren't we taken advantages of our resources? Take advantage of the opportunities of education that come our way. Not take advantage of the system and blame white people. That crap is so OLD! Grow up accept responsibility and do what you have to do already. And white people stop being so damn judgmental b4 you get to know us. If you see us dressed in our hip hop gear don't think we are hoodlums, we probably have an education and can articulate when we speak!

So true. All people see is black people getting weaves or perms or hair extensions, but white people do the same thing, and they're always trying to be tan. Some white girls go to tanning salons and get sooo tanned they really do look black. I think it's sad and its dangerous to their skin but they don't care.
