Soccer is only called soccer in the American continent... The rest pf the world calls it football....
Why is is the most popular? Because more countries in the world play soccer (footbal) then any other sport. While most countries have their "main / national sport", e.g. Canada has hockey, U.S. has their version of Football, soccer is one of the oldest games around...... Basketball is not too far behind...

Soccer is the most popular sport arond the world because it is. NFL is stupid. MLB is just a bunch of fat, guys who aren't even in shape running around. And once they get to first base, they're heaving like they just ran a mile. GARBAGE. To me, soccer (and basketball) is the only sport where you truly have to practice every single day for hours to make it big.

football, futbol, soccer whatever u call the sport where you kick a ball around using all parts of your body except hands is most popular becuz it is probably the most difficult sport to play. no matter what there is always a great challenge: keeping control of the ball.....also becuz it is just sooooooooo much fun to play!

one of the most important reasons is that soocer is most unpredictable game,Cameroon beats argentina,
Senegal beats france,France beats great brazil,Liverpool beats all the teams in europe and ...
so weak teams with good strategies and good chances can beat great teams
but in other games like basketball,volleyball,tennis and ... usually more Strong team beat the other!
