Why don't doctors let you choose what type of delivery you want?
C-sections are safe (I really don't want lectures from the all-natural crowd here-I've known enough people who've had them), inductions happen every day. If you're past your 37th week and complication-free, why not do it?
It just seems that you go through enough in 9 months-couldn't when and how you deliver be something you can have control over?

I don't want a c-section, it just seems stupid that insurance companies have more say in personal care than we do.
Just a question, really.

I don't know. I would feel much safer doing what the doctor says is best for me and my baby.

First off, you're dealing with the 'all knowing, all seeing, all powerful' medical establishment. Who are you to question them? You're just a woman, right? Doctors can irritate a person to no end. Actually, if you do your research, I'm sure you can find a doctor who will schedule what is known as a convenience delivery. I hear it's become very popular in China and among the monetarily elite. You may have to foot the bill though, depending on your insurance company, as it would be considered elective.
In reality, it really is better to deliver the old fashioned way (for mum and baby), with or without meds being your choice.

C-sections are actually rather dangerous, which is why that isn't the doctor's method of choice. It also costs almost twice as much to deliver that way than the traditional way.
Have you done much research on C-sections? I'm not trying to scare you, but they have to cut through your abdominal wall during a C-section. The healing time is much longer. You won't be able to return to work as soon, or drive a car and it will be painful and difficult to walk.
The doctors are the most qualified to determine if a C-section is necessary, please understand that they are trying to do what's best for you and your baby.

Personally I don't believe a woman should have a C-section unless absolutely necessary. Having a C-section is more expensive, requires a longer hospital stay than a natural birth, and leaves a nasty scar across your belly that takes a long time to heal.

While I plan to have a totally natural birth, I respect your right to choose. People plan c-sections all the time. If your doc is not giving you the option, you should get a new doctor or at least a second opinion.

I think we should be able to choose. I would opt for a c-section. I did the natural birth thing and I think that was most pain I have ever been in my life. I would much rather be cut open than to push another baby thru that small hole.

In terms of safety, it's actually safer to terminate a pregnancy than it is to carry it to full term.
In terms of choosing cesarian section, most OBGYN's are aware of long term issues related to this procedure. Have a look at the links below. The first link is an article arguing FOR elective lscs.
1) uterus has a scar - implications for future pregnancies - a) increased risk of rupture b) increased risk of abnormality of implantation (placenta accreta, placenta increta, placenta percreta) c) increased risk of low lying placenta
2) poorer mobility following operation than with vaginal delivery and accompanying risks of immobility ie. DVT/PE (blood clots), infection, poor wound healing
3) miscellaneous: chronic pain, infertility, miscarriages ...

Doctor's are afriad of being accused of malpractice, so they have to take every precaution. When delivering a baby. People think if their child is not perfect the doctor is to blame somehow.

Alot of people do choose their delivery now-a-days. They don't want their pregnancies to interfere with previous plans. Like wedding dates and vacations. If you can afford it, most doctors will do it.
Though I don't condone this, It happens alot with wealthier types of people.

You should never have surgery unless it is necessary. Plus, I'm sure the c costs more so your insurance would say hell no.
