Ok: here's the situation:

I have something in my dining room that looks like a washing machine hookup (two taps *like garden taps that would be in the yard*, and some kind of drain hole). The washing machine and dryer are actually out in the garage.

What I am wanting to do is hook a convertible dishwasher to this space because to put one in my kitchen would be an expensive and difficult undertaking.

When I asked about this at Lowe's, they said that had no idea if such a converter existed that would allow me to do such a thing (apparently the type of dishwasher I need is meat to hook straight to a kitchen sink and wouldn't work with the type of tap-things I have in this connection).

Can I do what I am wanting to do? If so, how should I go about this?

Thanks!

You really only need to connect to the hot water tap and the drain. Simply cut the faucet connector off the dishwasher and get a garden hose end kit. This will have a new end to connect to the hot water tap and is very easy to install. It should cost less than ten dollars. Then you will need a length of hose and a reducer to connect to the drain. The reducer is going to go on the houses drain end and then be attached to the hose from the dishwasher. Clamp it all securely using worm screw clamps. It should be a fairly simple fix. Make sure you measure all the areas you need to connect to to get the right sizes.

I doubt there is a specific connector for what you are trying to do, but, it is should be possible to put a screw end onto the 'in' connection on the dishwasher and just run a piece of tubing from the 'out' to the drain hole. It might take a couple of trips to the hardware store.

If you can, take pieces you are trying to connect to the store with you can try different fittings, You may have to stack up different adapters to make the complete connection.

You might also consider going to a smaller hardware store (Ace or somewhere similar). They tend to offer better advice than the clerks at Lowe's.

It should be easy to connect the dishwasher fill hose to one of your water connections. You just need to get a hose kit at the hardware store.
You should also be able to run the drain line of the dishwasher to the existing drain. The only concerns would be to make sure the hose won't slip out of the drain and if the pump on the dishwasher overflows the drain's capacity.

The drain and hot water supply line should do just fine for a diswasher. If there isn't already one there you may need to run a 220 volt circuit for your dishwasher though.

Change the two tap thing to a one tap kitchen unit and go for it.
