since in a telephone number we can repeat numbers... all we have to do is

10 10 10 10

10*10*10*10 = 10000

there would be 10000 7-digit telephone numbers

10 because the numbers are from 0~9

If the first three digits are fixed, then the question really becomes how many 4-digit numbers are there?

The answer, of course, is 10,000 (0000 thru 9999)
