First, I can certainly understand why the Jewish community would be so very outraged. They had suspicions about Mel all along -- from his father, who is a Holocaust denyer, to his portrayl of Jewish people in The Passion. The Jewish community did not find the portrayl of Jewish people anything less than inflammatory. Actually, I thought it was OK/accurate for the time and events.
Finally, the crushing blow was when he began his drunken diabtribe spouting out anti-Jewish sentiments. It was certainly an "I knew it!" moment for the Jewish community, and justifiably so!!! I know as an African-American, I believe people speak their true minds about their "racial" beliefs under stress, duress and intoxification. Therefore, as much as I otherwise admire Mel Gibson, I also believe he admits he does have latent issues with prejudice that really need to be dealt with!!
To Gibson's credit, he asked for help in battling the disease of prejudice. Remember, he has money already! He could have been flip about it and said, "I'll apologize and that's it!!!" or even not really apologize! He went to a place where a person who is truly living their faith goes -- asking for forgiveness and redmeption.
Good for him! Also, he's an example of how people can be used to do really great things despite their horrible and large flaws!!!
I hope he truly engages in the healing of his latent prejudices. I believe he will, and look forward to seeing more Mel at the theaters!

since the "enemy" is always at play in the field of the Lord, he will do what it takes to make God's people look bad in front of everyone. If we never make mistakes, how will we ever be forgiven by God? We are human, it is in the writing that we are ALL going to come short, and this time, he fell short. Can't be mad at him for that. As a Christian, this just means that instead of me being a fan of his, I will be Praying for him as a sister worshiping God with him.

I think the media needs to drop it. Big deal, he got drunk and was offensive. Most people, myself included, have done that, and I didn't believe what I was saying at the time...I was drunk and just spouting bs to go along with the conversation. It happens... people need to get over it.

OK the only reason we know about all this is because his a celebrity, his only human, we shouldn't care whether it was him or anyone else. This just shows that people worship celebrities. Who cares there's people everyday saying remarks like his and they are not making the news.

He is just a normal person doing normal things that is put under the spot light because he is a celebrity. As far as the remarks he made, they're all true.

Dear Wicked,
As you say, people make Huge mistakes. Especially when drunk, our uglier sides tend to show up, especially in regards to our prejudices, sins, those things which we desire to keep hidden.
So, in short, I agree. :-)
