I would watch old Danny Kaye movies or other movies with comedy in them. Funny movies will affect the way you think. Is there a place near you that teaches comedy improvisation? You could take a class in learning more about comedy. I love Comedy Sportz in Utah because it is clean comedy. I believe as a national franchise it has several locations across the country. I see you used a British spelling for "humour" - so I don't know if they have a Comedy Sportz where you live. You can also make friends with actors - they are usually making wisecracks.

Reading & studying will improve your insight firstly. Then you need to get out more often & spend more time with outgoing people. This will show you what people find as being funny. Also learn from tv sitcoms but try not to copy them.
Basically, If you havent got it by now, chances are you probably wont have the ability. Its like playing an instrument, you either learn from young or spend the rest of your life admiring other do it.
I wouldnt worry about it though because I'm sure you have other admirable qualities.

just be relaxed and kool.Find a distance between you and happenings arround you.As edward debono comments humour is a reaction of man when things violate the universal rules.Example you expect some things to happen as the rule of nature and when it does not or happen in a different wat we end having humour.

Read a newspaper. Comedians are very smart with what's going on in the world.

Being quick witted isn't always a good thing. People sometimes see it as sarcastic and insulting. I should know.
Concentrate on being friendly with people, it will be appreciated far more.
