I usually keep mine, partly because my first one was an original Nokia 'brick' so is a bit of a laugh now! However, you can trade them in I believe.

Other ideas:

Sell it on eBay.

Give it to someone who needs one.

Recycle it (most components can be reused if they're in the right hands)

Best of all, donate it to the charity the Body Shop collects for (Refuge) which gets money for every 'phone it collects, going towards domestic violence victims.

There are charities that collect old mobile phones (try www.recyclingappeal.com) - not sure if they get recycled as parts, or shipped out to 3rd world countries, either way, they are getting use out of it, and your contribution goes to a charity of your choice.
However, especially if you have no isurance for your new mobile, it may be worth holding onto your old one, just incase you break the new one, as replacement phones are often really basic or really expensive.

I pass it on in the family. And it's not just me... both my grandparents whom I regularly communcate with have mobiles now; even though they cannot read or write a text message, they manage quite well with the talking, so... :)

I picked up recycle envelopes from my doctors surgery - you just complete a couple of boxes on the plastic envelope then seal and post
The proceeds go to a charity

Contact your local police dept. if they have a place to donate to a Battered Women shelter. They can reactivate it so if a women is being beaten she can dial 911 only!! If the Police Dept does not know try your town/city hall!

I trade it in to get my new one. Like if the old one is about $100 in value, they'd simply cut away $100 from the price of the new one.

Most companies will now accept them back, they will donate them to womens shelters, foster homes, social workers etc, or refurbish them. Do not throw away, as they do contain some nasty bits that you do not want in a landfill.

Donate it, usually they go to an elderly person who needs one for medical conditions. Contact the Red Cross usually they have a drive going.

Or recycle it
