Go to a marine store and buy a set of "RABBIT EARS" That's probable not what they are technical called but someone there will know what you are talking about.
They look like tongs with rubber cups on the end that fit over the lower unit .there is a fitting that you hook a hose toAnd yes you should flush you out broad every time you use it.

marine store : "Rabbit ears" they go on a garden hose, then over the screen intake above the prop, fully open valve on hose and run water, start engine, make sure pisser (tell tale) is working, flush for 5 minutes, or so.... A small on/off water valve at the rabbit ears helps. Never run the engine (or attempt to start it) unless the rabbit ears are on, and the hose water is running on full. Never put in gear !

Do you have a hose cup that suctions onto your engine on the water intake. If yes place on your engine attach a garden hose turn on the water then start your engine let run for about 5mins then turn off. you should only flush if going from salt-water to fresh-water if you are having a cooling problem take it to the dealer.

there is a clamp that attaches to water hose, and you clamp it over water intake.
putting it in trash can works too.
