As the lists of what is considered to be a virus or a spyware are maintained by people, the list can vary from program to program. So it is recommended that you use a second virus scanner and a second spyware cleaner just in case the first one misses something.

As you can not have two virus scanners installed and running on your PC at the same time, I recommend you use one of the on-line virus scanners (available at Norton, McAfee, and elsewhere) to check for viruses.

Then download and run either Ad-aware or Spkybot Seek&Destroy (both free at download.com) and do a scan for any spyware.

If both come up clean, you should be good.

i wouldn't trust the online ones unless it was a free trial of something like Norton. the online one's get you to scan and then they actually leave a virus or spyware behind. i would trust your symantec though!
