why are there only light skinned black girls in the music industry/music videos?

all you see these days are just light skinned black people on the media today all the videos ,avrything not a single dark skinned person in sight i dont mean gabrielle union dark i MEAN foxy brown dark.....whats so wrong with dark skinned sistas...are they that ugly or something, it makes me very sad and angry

it makes me really sad how they look down on darker toned girls...even if the girl has a banging personality if they see a light chick even if shes boring as hell they like her...most of the dudes who even do this are dark skinned brothas but for some reason they only accept lighter toned chicks...do the brothas h8 themsleves or somethng btw ...im way darker than idia arie...

Do you think they're "that ugly?" (wow). It was strange reading that part. In any case, no - of course they're not ugly. Lighter has always been deemed prettier (and better) by the people who are superficial and for those who just don't know better. When black people do it, I see it as them (us) hating themselves.

Light skinned black girls are popular in music videos because they are less "African looking" (I guess) than the darker-skinned sistas. It's really sad and unfortunate for us (I'm dark) but at the end of the day, you have to know your own worth and seek out those who will value your beauty as being JUST AS POWERFUL. Don't let the music video execs influence your opinion on yourself. Many of them idealize white features because they hate black features... they themselves suffer from poor self esteem. I can go on and on, but I won't. Just please don't let it get to you although it IS sad.

Im light skinned but I see what you talking about, I can really only name one dark skinned african-american who sings, and I don't even think she did good when she went single..I'm talking about Kelly from Destiny's Child.

I think that a lot of it has to do with makeup and lightning. Mary J. Blige isn't light skinned, but she looks that way in a lot of photos.

typically the darker skinned people are related to as the lower class or laborers of the race

the lighter skinned people were the ones that worked inside at the better jobs
