Having a child does not make you a good parent. You can respect your parents (at least they didn't flush you down a toilet) but if they do not have good parenting skills you should look to others for guidance. School counselors, pastor, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbor, your friends parents. When dealing with your parent's ignorance just let their negative comments go in one ear and out the other and treat them as if they were retarded (be nice to them, don't let their ideas bother you)

Ah, it's very normal, I have the same problem like you. And I figure out two things I should do. First ask my parents, just simply listen, then ask my friends, simply argue.
Very funny that how much different the between the two answer I get. But the thing I learn from this, it's how to decide by myself.

Their giving constructive views and you showing respect are not related. You show respect by listening to what they have to say. They show you respect by understanding you choose to do something different than they advise, but you talked about it.

Do they or did they support you? Put food on the table? A roof over your head? Clothes on your back? Don't you think you owe them some respect for that? You don't have to disrespect someone just because you don't agree with their views.

I used to listen to my parents, but the nice stranger with candy had better advice.

well you should anyways.... even if your parent have no idea what they are doing you should always respect them... my parents didn't show me or teach me anything that I can recall but the LORD will show you the rest... keep the faith....
