It's really an odd situation. It clouds your ability to do either right. Of course not in all cases, but many. When you think of why you get up in the morning, whether it be love, work, school, or what ever, you have to think what could happen if you blended them.
Blending love and work is hard to do because they are two different environments. I love my wife unconditionally. She could have a good day, a bad day, a productive day, a lazy day, and I still love her. Now lets say that I am her boss, her lazy days would interfere with my career, my goals, may even get me fired if I didn't reprimand her for being lazy. How would she feel if I reprimanded her? It's a tricky thing. Some get away with it. If you plan on loving someone in your career, best to start your own business and be equal partners in life, love, and career.

Re schools, students are often under legal age and this situation is beginning to bring a lot of unwanted and undeserved negative attention to the teaching fraternity that appears out of all context re reality, because of the public media attention such cases receive.
In both cases, however, regardless of age, the overall problem is one of Power.
It is seen as an unfair advantage that the boss or teacher seems to have exerted more than just a professional sense or extent of power over the involved minor.
Also, some people's minds start to play havoc on the possible sources of the relationship.
Did something develop as a result of some favor that the boss or teacher implied he or she would extend for a more intimate relationship or favor in return?
Were there other more sinister origins involved?
In the case of Male-female, where the male has the position of authority [and which seems to comprise the majority of cases that occur], it is worth noting that the most intimate relationship between male and female is often one where Power carries great influence - where the male is the leader and often dominant force.
It can therefore be viewed in an office or school setting that the man has used the authority of his position as part of his overall armoury of power and seduction - a power that does attract many women to a man.
All of these things considered, the overall picture regarding love relationships in these settings is not one seen favorably by many people.

Because the parties are unequal, in the sense that one has authority over the other. Because the potential for exploitation exists. In the case of teacher-student, because often the student is still a minor. Because it could lead to preferential treatment by the teacher or the employer. And because a personal relationship can interfere with the normal functioning of the underlying relationship (the work or school environment.)

Im not even going to dignify the teacher-student portion of your question with ANY response. Thats just common sense.
The employer-employee thing is because people are incapable of seperating work life from personal life. Favoratism will be showed...or something will happen and the people will start fighting about it at home...and then everyone else in the office/work area will be affected. And there are other things but you can use your imagination.

Teacher-student is ridiculous because of the probable age difference, & the power the older one can have over the young developing mind. To me is is sick & child abuse.
The boss/employee is similar, power & the underling can be taken advantage of in most cases. Besides, if it doesn't go well, how do you see the "breakup" in an office situation? Most are ugly & out of control, & could disrupt the whole office.
My ex was fired from his 30 year job for messing with his secretary. It was the cause of our breakup besides!!
Now, his secretary is supporting him & paying for his insurance & quite possibly his alimony & child support!
