Bad luck mate - done it twice.
You will go through the equinus and semi-equinus position for the foot in the hope that the tendon will knit.
But take things slowly when the cast is off.
You will get exercises to stretch it but don't be too keen, like I was.
If you are lucky and the tendon does knit, then it will be thicker where it joins and no, it will never work the same again.
You calf muscle will look terrible for a while but it comes back.
It took me six months to get walking without a stick and fifteen years on, my foot does not pull back to the same position as the non-injured one.
I would not recommend squash or jumping off high walls!
Sorry to be the bearer of this.
I WAS in my thirties then and if you're younger, you might heal better.
Oh, and if it doesn't knit - they stitch it.

Treatment of Achilles Tendon Rupture
A completely ruptured Achilles tendon will require surgical repair, followed with up to 12 weeks in a series of casts. Partial tears may be treated with casting for up to 12 weeks alone, and sometimes are treated with surgery and casting. A heel lift is usually used for 6 months to one year following removal of the cast. Rehabilitation to regain flexibility and then to regain muscle strength are also instituted following removal of the cast. As with all sports related injuries, a visit to a physician for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan is essential

Normally, the ends of the tendon are attached together by surgery. If yours is an incomplete rupture, it may not have required surgery. With a complete rupture and surgery, the cast is usually on for 6-8 weeks. With your setup, I have no way to make a comment on how long it will be and how well it will heal together.

6-8 weeks is the normal healing time for an achilles tendon tear. It sounds like your doctor is taking the correct protocol and you should be fine. Be patient.

That is a real shame for him He should have been in the squad as a sub. When he comes on it seems to lift England up a gear. He's been a great player for England I feel very sorry for him, as he was trying so hard to make the squad. Should retire now, and come home. Bad luck Becks

It takes longer than a broken bone. I would say at least 6 months to a year depending on how diligently you do your rehab therapy once the tendon is strong enough to proceed with that.

'nuff said?

Aye mate my bro has his snapped last July and hes still hardly able to move it.

I think it depends how much damage there is and how hard you push yourself once in rehab though.
