yes it should be legalized.
Alcohol has been proven to not have the same cancer causing effects as cigarettes. They are unable to confirm that marijuana increases your risk for cancer. Therefore, it's safer than cigarettes. Hundreds of thousands of people die each year from lung cancer caused by cigarettes. Little to none are from marijuana.
Everyone knows that marijuana is safer than alcohol. No matter how much mary jane you smoke it will not impair you like alcohol does. Alcohol will physically disable you from doing anything, yet it is still legal. Tens of thousands of deaths are recorded each year from Alcohol. Little to none are from marijuana.
If marijuana were legalized it would free up room in the jails and make room for the people who should be there. The jails are overly capacitated as it is especially since all the immigration.
Law enforcement could concentrate on things that are more dangerous such as drunk drivers, cocaine, crack, heoroin. Things that are proven to be much much more dangerous and responsible of many deaths each year.
Marijuana is a peaceful drug. Go to a concert where there is a bunch of alcohol and you will have fights and violence. Go to a hippie concert where there's mostly just marijuana smoking and everyone is calm, peaceful and friendly. Little to no violence.\
Medical benefits from marijuana are great. It can be used for many different medical purposes.
The resin from marijuana is the most sticky thing in the world and can be used for glue and other things.
It produces some of the strongest material which can be used for rope, clothing and other useful things (which it already is in some places). There are so many benefits to it. But because one person "I smoked a joint..... then killed my parents", it ruined it for all of us.
Bottom line is, marijuana is much safer than many of the drugs in this world, even some of the LEGAL ones. The only reason it is not legal is because the government can not make as much money from it if it were LEGAL.
I will close with this quote from the Bible,
God said, "Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of all the earth.…To you it will be for meat." … And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. (Genesis 1:29-31)

Smokable marijuana should never be legalized. It is an uncontrolled mind alterring substance that even advocates of legalization cannot manage to use responsibly. It is more dangerous than Heroin as heroin can only affect those who are injected, Marijuana could affect anyone in the vacinity with unpredictable results.
Marijuana is a mellow drug because most users cannot afford to consume a large enough dose of it for it to serve as a stimulant or hallucinagen. This could change radically when Marijuana enters the free market and the price plumits. We could see a very violent side of the drug when it's reasonably affordable for a casual user to smoke 5 or more ounces a day.
There are remarkably few accidents involving Marijuana users because Marijuana is illeagal. Poeple with poor judgement have legal drugs like alcohol that they can consume to get in car wrecks and generally those who are involved in accidents while on an illeagal substance go to great lengths to conceal it. People inedbriated on Marijuana can't get out of a beanbag chair. What makes them think they can opperate a vehicle better than a alcoholic is a mystery. There are no cases that link Marijuana smoking to Cancer. There are (I **** you not) -Billions- more Cigerette smokers in the world than Marijuana smokers and the Surgeon General of the US cannot say conclusively that Cigerette smoke causes cancer. Marijuana Cigerettes are carcigenic. The word "Carcigenic" means capable of causing cancer.
Drug dealers don't sell marijuana beacuse they're such great advocates of the product, they aren't going to get jobs witht he tabacco companies if it's legalized. They're going to find another drug market for them to get rich quick in. Jails will be every bit as full.
Hemp is a great natural fiber but the only thing it does better than Synthetic materials or even cotton is promote the legalization of marijuana.
Marijuana has uncontested medical benifits proven in medical trial after medical trial as does Opium and LSD. Opium and LSD are both used in controled medical applications while their street versions remain illeagal. Medical purposes for Marijuana don't require it's legalization.

Marijuana, if legalized, could be regulated and taxed. this would not only give our government more money, but also make marijuana safer because potency and impurities could controlled and monitored. The prisons would be way empty because of ridiculous drug laws with mandatory minimum sentences etc. would be gone. People could still get DUIs for it, so they would still be discouraged from that. Also marijuana is safer than cigarettes and it helps to manage pain and appetite. I think society, in general, would not change that much, but I do think it may hurt Amsterdam's tourist economy.

Someone asked this last week. But this question is different. If it was legal, I would think society would feel different and act the same. Since it's mainly used for medical reasons like cancer, maybe it'll be acceptable. Nonetheless it's an illegal drug, which'll shorten your life span by making you feel better. As for incarcerated people, I don't think there would be less people. I think it'll be more.

Yes it should and the War on Drugs should be exposed for what it is.
A lie.
The CIA controls the global drug trade.
Afghanistan was just another notch on the belt for now they have 80% of the worlds opium production.
The founding fathers would be aghast that Marijuana was illegalized and the people were brainwashed with films like Reefer Madness.

Not necessarily legalised, but at least reduce the penalties attached to it. In the States, it's put into the same class as cocaine, and heroin, despite the fact that they're far more destructive.
Most current laws are based on preconcieved notions that were held about it 80 years ago, but hold no basis in reality.

Yes.
Society has been trained to believe that Alcohol and Tobacco are acceptible drugs to use despite how much more harmful they are. Also, ANY substance that is used as a crutch will eventually be seen as addictive no matter if it's true or not. I do not believe that marijuana is an addictive drug in and of itself. Nor do I believe it to be a "gateway" drug.

All drugs should be legalised. Let Marijuana be sold through outlets in small quantities and the harder drugs available on prescription to registered addicts this would remove the criminal element from the supply chain.

the legalization of marijuana would give government complete and total control of its distribution.
government would be able to devalue it thus removing it from our school yards.
it won't happen because too many officials are receiving pay offs from smugglers and distributors

My uncle is a psychyatrist. More than 3/4 of his patients have mental illness due, at least in part, to marijuana.
Get rid of it!!
