A complete new install is better. An upgrade leaves 'baggage' in the form of unnecessary files, reg entries, etc. Start new.

no it won't help the computer, but it'll help you. If you upgrade a previous windows version, you have the advantage of not missing any files, and having your good ole setting intact, but if you do a clean install, your computer would be free of those useless garbage, that slows down computer considerably.

My reccomendation, perhaps, is if your old installation of Windows XP is new and you're at least 95% sure there is no virus, spyware, adware, etc you could do an upgrade, but if your installation is quite old (for example, the last time you reinstall the old installation is 1 years ago) then I strongly suggest a clean install.

If I understand your question...
It is better to format the hard drive and do a complete install of Windows XP then to upgrade over an existing version of Windows. Because of you upgrade, your system will not change the drivers for some of your hardware to the Windows XP versions. It may continue to use the drivers from the earlies version of Windows.

It also cleans up any unwanted or unneeded files from the early version of Windows (and other software), "defrags" the hard drive, cleans the registry and clears any viruses or spyware.

ya, if u upgrade ur XP from another disk then its good, but it has some drawback to like if ur PC contain some virus then they ur computer remain infected after installing a new window. look ,Upgradation of xp is useful when ur boot drive contain some important information. n You can not move or copy that information to another drive.so my suggestion is first of all format ur boot drive n install a new xp

a new installation is alway's better. and upgrade would mean that all your old setting would have to be saved, which would be additional load on the drive and the resources.
