Change your approach, let the person solve or act on the situation. Don't give the person an instruction, let the person do as he wishes to do and just follow up on the results. Mostly people tend to perform best if they have the freedom to do things on their on. They want pride on the things they do, change your style of leading. Read the book " One Minute Manager" is teaches situational leadership. Apply it and it will reduce some pressures in your work life.

Maybe your instructions are not clear enough. Lets look outside the box, what if its not the subordinate, but you.
1) Are your instructions clear? (Not your opinion, but hear it from a friend or family or fellow equal level colleague)
2) How is your body language when you give him instructions?
3) How about the tone of your voice?
4) Are your instructions, question-liked?
5) Do you talk down to him because he is your subordinate?
6) Remember, hirem firem is fine, but it may reflect badly on you when your superiors starts reviewing the high turnover from your side. (Will they think poor management skills maybe? Promotable? hmm...)

give him a written notice stating that his actions constitute subordination, and that disciplinary action will follow if he does not begin to complete work assignments as instructed. After that, if he continues, follow through and suspend him w/o pay and give a final warning, then after that, terminate his sorry ***! There's no way a subordinate should be giving you trouble like that. Consult your company's personnel policy and find out what the disciplinary procedures are, and ring him through! And make sure your supervisor is aware of what's happening, unless you feel that wouldn't be appropriate in your company. But there's no need to put up with it. You have to stand up to him, because if you can't, then you're not doing YOUR job as a supervisor, and you would need to step down.

You can not change a person period! Change your wording when you ask him to do things for you. Praise him, if he is doing a good job. Tell him what your expectations are and how want things to be done. Document what he is doing and not doing. If he is not doing his job, give him a verbal warning, followed by a written warning. You must have documentation of his wrong doing or you are going to loose. I think you need to go to a Supervisor Seminar and you will learn how to handle different situations. Ask you HR department and get signed up.

I think it is always the mindset of human being. Is your surbodinate more senior than you in your company? There are such people around the world. As long as they are more senior or experience they don't follow your instruction even though you are their superior.
What you need do is issue one warning letter to him to warn him to buck up his performance. You have to monitor his performance from then onwards to see if there is any improvement. if there is really no improvement in your staff performance, the last resort is to get him fired. Hope you dun need to use the last resort to solve your problem

Well first I think you should give him a verbal warning and the write him up. If this doesn't work then I would think you had grounds to fire him. Good Luck.

That is reason to termintate employment. Some states, like mime, it's a no reason to terminate as long as not for civil rights violation

You write him up, call him in & discuss the problem. Warn him that 3 write ups for same problem equals dismissal. Document Everything!!!
