is it when it goes completely flat and you can not get the gas from it? is it safe to drink when it is flat?

it's safe but as you said, flat. Coca Cola syrup used to be given as a
syrup to sooth upset stomachs

It all depends on your point of view.
Some like it cold & fizzy, others like it room temp. & flat.
After reading that Highway Patrol keep two gallons in their trunk to remove blood from the road adfter an accident & that it can dissolve a nail in 2 to 4 days. I gave it up.

well I don't have too much of a problem...I drink my coke right away so it doesn't go flat....I Love Coke of cola...
