3-4 hours not more or you run the risk of toxic shock syndrome.

From 4 to 8 hours maximum depending on your flow. If you're very light, you can leave it for 8 or 9, I have, but that's not reccomended. If it's heavy, I'd keep watch and change it often. I've had to change after only about 3 or 4 hours. I go by feeling, mostly. If it feels like I'm just wet inside, then it's probably full and time to change. Sometimes you don't feel it and you leak through; another sign.

The reason for such a time limit is because of Toxic Shock Syndrome. Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is caused by a toxin produced by certain types of staphylococcus bacteria. Although the earliest described cases involved mostly menstruating women using highly absorbent tampons, only 55% of current cases are associated with menstruation. Tampons also not only absorb menstruation, but the mucus produced by the vagina to keep itself humid and clean.

Sometimes when inserting or taking a tampon out, it can cause tearing in the tissue, whether noticable or not. These can lead to infections caused by the bacteria mentioned above, and because the tampon is aborbing valuable fluids to keep the vagina healthy, it can quickly become serious and life threatening.

The likelihood of this isn't very high, though, and many, many use tampons on a regular bases. I recently started using them and I've really had no problems, aside from leaking, which can be solved by using the right absorbancy at the right time during the period.

Usually tampons come with pamplets inside explaining what I just told you. Could have that a skim through. :)

Only 6-8 hours, obviously less if you fill it, and if it isn't full be 6-8 hours, sit in a bath or go swimming, which will help you remove it. Its the leftover fibres you should avoid which may be left behind if tampon is dry-ish when removed.... Overnight is ok, as long as u use a lesser flow capacity tampon...

No matter how heavy or light your flow, only 4 hrs. even less for heavy. Bacteria grows in warm, moist tampons. There was a lot written about this about 5 years ago...about the dangers. finally it was said it is ok if not left in longer than 3-4 hrs.

No more than 4 hours on your heavy days. No more than 7 or 8 on your light days. If you leave it in longer, you might suffer Toxic Shock Syndrome, which can be deadly.

Oh sorry I'm not a girl.
