My neighbour has erected decking so high she can look into my living room. Is this legal?

File a complaint with your local Building Commissioner. If they have a permit, you maybe out of luck. If they did not get a permit, the Building Commissioner may make them tear it down. I'd start there.

I saw a programme on TV the other day about the issues surrounding decking, apparently it does require planning permission as it alters the way the users of decking can view the surrounding property, comes under the right to privacy. If the neighbours had applied for planning permission, then you would have been notified, so could take it they haven't so could approach the planning dept of the local council for further advice. The problem is all the makeover programmes show decking and whatnot, and don't fully go into the legal implications

could be worse, could be your bedroom. The are permit rules for anything that's off the ground mainly for safety reasons. Call the building dept.

just erect higher fence, that should make it secluded for you
