Considering the area of the question (fashion and accessories), synthetic has to do with the material used for clothes or accessories. Synthetic means smth synthesized in the lab (industry), which means through chemical reactions and processes. Some of such materials used for clothes are: polyester, acrylic, nylon, rayon, etc. The reason for producing synthetics is lower cost than fabricating natural materials. Natural resources are scarce and often need additional preparatory work (e.g leather). Synthetics are perceived to have the look and characteristics of natural materials (e.g. viscose v.s. silk). Sometimes they have advantages like they are washed in lower temperatures and don't need ironing.

For example there is synthetic motor oil which is made chemically rather than distilled from crude oil. And there are fabrics like polyester which are made from chemicals rather than coming from animals or plants.
