If you are just starting out, you could do well with just a bare bones model for about $500, but if you're into games, etc., and are advanced in computer ability, then buy the best one your finances can afford.

well it depends on how much you are willing to pay for the laptop! if its around 40,000/- plus then go for HP/COMPAQ there are models in pavilion n presario series and make sure u get pentium M inbuilt bluetooth, multi media card readed..dvd combo drive or DVD writer+reader(dual drive)..touch pad..PCMIA slot..etc etc which wud b available in these models and make sure u buy one with original windows.if ur gonna use windows as ur operating systen.well it wud cost 3000/- more but it wud make ur laptop run smooth and get automatic updates etc etc easily and if u wana have cheap one go for celeron in COMPAQ OR IBM! or u may waan try acer!

what do you want to do with it. you can spend $500 -$2500
Dell seems ato have the best prices for the lower end units.

i have a toshiba satellite 1.6ghz, 512MB ram, 60G hdd, dvd rw.. and it's great so i can recommend that to you
