I will assume some port standards have been defined.
Search engines have had years to study the flow of packets and keywords.
html & other coding standards to ensure data delivery and format...
voip is a biggie...
higher bandwidth for common users,
better compression of multimedia at greater resolution and quality (although not solely internet)
MASSIVE open source movements not only in code, but multimedia for free.
HOw much ecommerce do you think took place in the early 90s? lol
