How long after a miscarriage will a pregnancy test show negative? Does there have to be heavy bleeding? Could there be any other explaination for bleeding at 8 weeks? I'm sorry for this type of question, I'll delete it soon. I will be calling my OB in a little while, but they don't open until 9am (it's 7:30am here).
Many thanks.

I called the doctor's emergency line last night. I spoke with one of the doctor's that we know and trust. I asked her if it is a miscarriage, is there anything they could do at this point (8 weeks) to stop it. She said no. If I went into the ER, it would be to either be told I've lost or am losing the baby or to be told that I'm not.
My husband and I thought about going into the ER. I decided that I didn't want to go and sit only to be told there was nothing they could do. It was after 10pm when I spoke with the OB. We would have been in the ER for a good ling while and we have a 7 month old daughter who needed to get home and get to bed.
I'm sorry if my reasons for not wanting to go into the ER seem cold. I just didn't want to sit there, have our daughter there (there's no one who could take her) and not getting any rest, only to be told there is nothing they could do. The OB I spoke with last night had no problem with my decision.
Thank you.

Break through bleeding is possible without misscarriage. It just all depends on how heavy you are bleeding. Until you can get ahold of your OB/Gyn, I am sorry to say, there is nothing you can do. A miscarriage is a natural event that can not be stopped when you are in the first tri-mester. If it is to happen, it will happen with or without your input. The scary stuff aside, you may not necessarily be miscarrying. As a matter of fact, women have been known to continue to bleed (have periods I mean) throughout their first tri-mester. When you get ahold of the doctor's office, the nurse will probably ask you in what amount of time frame are you bleeding through one pad. If your answer to this is 'well, I am not bleeding THAT much", then you're probably allright.

A miscarriage at 8 weeks would involve pretty heavy bleeding. You can continue to be pregnant even after bleeding - it can mean nothing.
Usually if it's very heavy, continues for a long time (over a day)and includes severe cramping then it is a miscarriage.

Don't be ashamed of your question. You're not breaking any rules. Bleeding happens for several weeks after pregnancy, so I'm sure it would happen after a miscarriage. Still, I'm not a professional so definitely check with the OB for sure.

i wish you well. with my youngest son, i started bleeding...actually blood clots went flowing down my leg. i was rushed to the ER and they ran tests and told me that i had miscarriages, from there they sent me to have a sonogram to make sure all the baby had been expelled. low and behold...there it is, a beating heart. my baby was alive. now looking back i believe i lost a twin ( i didn't even know i was preg. when i lost that blood). Good luck to you and try to stay calm
