A couple of years ago, I bought my father a digital thermometer from Radio Shack. One part hangs outside the house, the other part stays inside so you can sit in your nice comfortable house and be able to tell the exact temperature outside.

This year, I had wanted to buy him a digital rain gauge but couldn't find any at the local stores so I gave him money instead.

Another idea is a police scanner. I'm not really into electronics and I've got two daughters so I'm no good at shopping for a man - sorry!

The mere thought of giving a present to father on his birth day is so exciting that all fathers would dream of.Anything costing a few $ would amount to billions in sentiments.A box of chocolate,Neck tie, perfume or a pair of glasses would be good presents.

How old is your father?

My best advice is nothing. Instead, sit down and create a list of the things you appreciate about him. Read that list to him. You will find he will love that more than anything you could buy.

I've always given a lot of thought as to what to give my dad too. The best present I've ever given him though was a father/daughter day. We met for breakfast, then spent the day together doing various things, museums, walks, etc. He enjoyed it more as it gave him much appreciated one on one time with me. You can find inexpensive things to do, but the memory of that time with you will always stay with him.
Good luck!
