Keep watch on all fluid levels.
Regularly monitor all "wear" items, that need to be replaced periodically: windshield wiper blades, brake pads, tires.
Watch all warning lights on your dashboard
Be alert for unusual performance from the car
Don't abuse the car (such as sustained high speed driving on dirt roads, etc)
Don't eat or drink in the car - crumbs and spills accumulate into a disgusting mess
