Fundamental research refers to (for the lack of a better word) external factors that drive a stock or commodity like geopolitical tensions, supply/demand, weather conditions for crops, profit/loss for a company, new product development, etc. It takes into consideration the circumstances that will drive price and such.
Technical Analysis looks at the market action and analyzes statics generated by the market to forecast future price activity, such things as price action, volume, open interest, momentum, etc. Technical analysis incorporates the belief that all information needed to forecast future price action is contained with in the current and historical price action. Technicans look at charts along with various studies like Stochastics, MACD, Bollinger Bands, etc., to forecast future direction.
Does this help a bit?
