You could put it down to one of two things, depending on your level of cynicism.

1. The urge to answer questions is an extension of the urge to help another human being in need, itself an extension of the social instinct developed to maintain man as a societal creature.

2. It's a way to show superiority in any way one can. The show-off urge is another fundamental human trait which determines a pecking-order. Most social animals try to climb higher in that pecking order by any means possible.

It could be a combination of both of these things. The cynics out there will plump for reason 2. Most cynics will poo-poo any explanation of a true beatific motivation.

An inherent human trait known as the know-it-all gene. This desire to prove our superiority by providing answers to everything or perhaps a humanistic urge to help to aid one's fellow beings by sharing the vast amount of knowledge in our cranial lobes. There is also the hint that these points go towards prizes and such and so we answer frantically hoping for a t-shirt or a baseball cap while wasting hours at the computer when we should probably be out finding a cure for cancer or bringing peace to the Middle East or blessing family & friends with our pressence our love our compasion (will the last person reading this please swill the vomit out of the hard drive).

because it is in human nature to always feel that you know more than the other person. so everytime a question is asked, we have the tendency to try and show off our knowledge. that is why people have the urge to answer others.

Because everyone wants to add their 2 pennys - its human nature. And in my case an inherent urge to help people.

Some people are of helping nature and like to try to help. Others like to see how other people think and react. Some people find this fun and why do you care??

I do it to assess how much I understand the issue. Also, in reference to what others have to say and try to understand their point of view against mine.

Does this make sense to you?
