Hard Contact lenses
Initially contact lenses were made up of glass.
It was Dr William Feinbloom who introduced of material called PMMA (Polymethyl methacrylate) it is also known as plexiglas.

Soft contact lenses
Otto Witech was supposed to be the man behind this he used the same technic of hard lenses but he used polymers, they are also known as hydrogel, previously 'silicon hydrogels' have been introduced.
