Yes.

The speed of sound changes underwater but you can still hear. The vibrations we translate into sound just come through water molecules rather than molecules in the air.

Yes, we hear underwater. The water may dampen the ability of your eardrum to vibrate, making sounds more difficult to hear. Hearing the sounds of animals underwater may be more difficult because the produce sounds in a frequency range that we aren't sensitive to. For that, you need specialized microphones to record in that range.

delayed... im pretty sure the soundwave is slowed down significantly in water. There is also a chance it acts as a filter, cutting frequencies, either high, or low pass. I woudl tend to think high.

HOWEVER, being slower, the sound might be able to travel further, moving more physical material (water)

I always have trouble not hearing the surface of the waters movement but if that was somehow minimized, minute sounds might be audible.

Yes we can. You can hear all kinds of things. Although you need a 'hydrophone' to hear dolphins in the water, if you are swimming with them you can hear them whistle...according to this field report from the Dolphin Communication Report...

Water is actually an excellent medium for propagating sound waves, although human speech is somewhat garbled, the sound waves travel much faster, enabling us to hear noises from afar.

Yes, you can hear people's knuckles crack from across a pool. Sound travels better and faster under water than through air.
