Help please I am the executor of retirement account in the US, after filling all the required documentation in and 12 months later still waiting to be paid out, i've been told i'll need testementary letters from the state of California, anyone know how I do this short of jumping on a plane! And what are testementary letters anyway.

tetementary letters are a legal document issued by the county probate officer, in your case for the state of california, my american isnt that good we have different names for them in the uk
but basicly it your right to the assets as an executor or administrator of a will or estate, there is a web site you may want to check out its a us based site so it may give you clearer advice mylaw.com

A testimentary letter is a will.

Are you sure they didn't ask for a testimonial?
