(-10 ± sqrt(420))/(-8)
(-10 ± sqrt(4 * 105))/(-8)
(-10 ± 2sqrt(105))/(-8)

(1/4)(5 ± sqrt(105))

assuming that that your problem is

-4x^2 + 10x + 20

which could be simplified to

-2(2x^2 - 5x - 10) = 0

x = (-(-5) ± sqrt((-5)^2 - 4(2)(-10)))/(2(2))
x = (5 ± sqrt(25 + 80))/4
x = (5 ± sqrt(105))/4
x = (1/4)(5 ± sqrt(105))

divide per -2 the numeratror and denominator:
sqrt(420)= 2 sqrt(105)= 2 sqrt(5*3*7)

so = (5 +/- sqrt(105))/4
