First and foremost, BE is not my favorite mineral makeup, but here is the general rule about application of minerals. You need to use a concealer on your flaws before you apply the minerals. The minerals do not cover the blemishes and you end up having a lot of powder on the area that you are trying to cover versus the rest of your face. Also, use a good moisturizer underneath. Try the ones that also operate as a primer. Then brush and brush and brush. The minerals have to sink into your skin and make it even. There is also a possibility that you do not like the coverage of this particular brand. I have tried Jane Iredale, Glo Minerals, Everyday Minerals, BE, Philosophy, Physician Formula, Loreal and many more. To me, the best was Everyday Minerals at everydayminerals.com. The price for EM Products is 1/5 of BE and the minerals are purer.

Make sure you moisturize first and that your skin is not still "sticky" from moisturizer when you apply the foundation - wait a little while to let it sink in. Bare minerals is not mean to completely cover your skin like a mask - if you have a blemish type discoloration you may need to use different concealers first. Don't forget to really blend it and use the mineral veil at the end. Also, you don't need as much of the Bare minerals as you do with regular liquid foundations so maybe you're using too much?

When I first started using it, I had this problem, too. What I did was, first, I put my moisturizers on right after my shower, then get dressed, do my hair, etc., to give it time to sink in and not be tacky anymore. Then, I buff ALOT. It takes longer than putting on regular makeup, but the results are totally worth it. It looks totally natural, yet flawless. It usually takes me two tap'n'buffs, about 3-4 minutes, to do my whole face and jawline. For blemishes, I still use a liquid concealer/treatment like tinted OXY under the minerals, I couldn't get them covered properly using only powdered product, either.
Use a liquid concealer for blemishes, and buff longer, and I think you will be happier with the results.

Wash your face. Make sure you aren't moisterizing or puting blemish cream on your skin before you put on the makeup. If the concealer isn't working for you, try puting another brand's concealer on (nuetrogena, etc) on your blemish (make sure it matches your skin tone also). Then put the foundation over it... if you want you can use the concealer brush too, but sometimes it smudges the regular concealer you applied first. Also, no one's skin is perfect... heck I have the same problem as you minus the cakey-ness. Above is what I do to cover my blemishes. Good luck and I hope this helps.

i've been putting a foundation under it. it kind of defeats the purpose of using the bare mineral, but it makes my skin look so natural and lasts forever! it doesn't look cakey, it looks more dewey... i think the foundation is called "loreal everlast" or something that will last 16 hours. i put the foundation on very thin and then start w/ the mineral makeup. it works well for me like that. also, you could be using the wrong formula. they make some for dry skin, oily skin, normal..... maybe try a different kind. Hope i helped :)

i HATE bare minerals! i had the exact same problem, i always ended up looking cakey! that stuff doesn't cover pimples at all, and even if you don't have anything major to cover and just want an even tone, you can STILL see it.
i switched to neutrogena skin-clearing concealer, which does wonders, and clinique skin-clearing foundation.
go buy the concealer, it covers like no one's business and doesn't look cakey at all. the clinique foundation is alright, it's pretty sheer though.
i do still use my mineral veil once i'm done with my foundation, i must admit, i do like that stuff. but the foundation? NO WAY!
you aren't alone! haha i'm happy to have found someone with the same problem!
hope all works out! let me know how it's going.

Apply a small amount of moisturizer to your skin before you use the minerals on it. It will go on smoothly.
