10th Planet Discovered
The planet, which hasn't been officially named yet, was found by Brown and colleagues using the Samuel Oschin Telescope at Palomar Observatory near San Diego. It is currently about 97 times farther from the sun than Earth, or 97 Astronomical Units (AU). For comparison, Pluto is 40 AU from the sun.

The chilly world dubbed Xena on the outskirts of the solar system has as at least as much claim to be a planet as Pluto, according to a new study confirming that the "tenth planet" is by far the larger of the two.

Astronomers first spotted Xena, known more formally as UB 313, in 2003, but the discovery was not made public until July 2005. By then they realised it was amazingly distant – at times, about three times as far from the Sun as Pluto is.

From its brightness and distance, astronomers estimated that it must be slightly larger than Pluto – assuming that, like Pluto, it reflects just over half the sunlight that falls onto it.

To calculate Xena’s size more directly, Frank Bertoldi of the University of Bonn in Germany and his colleagues measured its light at a wavelength of 1.2 millimetres using a telescope array in the Spanish Sierra Nevada. Xena emits this radiation in response to being warmed by the Sun, regardless of the shininess of its surface.

The amount of millimetre radiation suggested Xena is about 3000 kilometres wide – 30% wider than Pluto.

enable's make one factor clean: it is not proper what non secular texts say related to the life of this planet. It does not remember what somebody interprets historical writings to point. It does not remember what everyone says on the information superhighway. What *does* remember is this meant planet has never been seen. If it grew to become into certainly going to bypass Earth in 3 years' time it may be particularly seen to even the main rank beginner astronomer. because it is, no-one seems to understand the place this factor is or the place we could desire to continually additionally be seeking to make certain it. people who do declare to understand the place it is reveal enormous lack of information, such because of fact the thought it could in basic terms be seen from Antarctica (inspite of Earth being a sphere, and for this reason having a powerful line of sight to any think approximately the sky from a minimum of 50% of its floor at any time), or that the south pole telescope captured photos of it in January twelve months (inspite of January in the south pole having 24 hours of solar an afternoon). i've got even seen human beings declare they have taken video of it, yet continually its by way of a window and it appears that evidently precise next to the solar, and that they never seem to think of that somebody else could in basic terms have observed such an obtrusive merchandise in the sky. No planet will bypass by ability of Earth in 2012. If it grew to become into going to we could have seen it, and observed its gravitational outcomes on the outer planets a protracted time in the past.
