I am converting Z into Zx, Zy, where Zy would be on the Y axis, but it does not seem very elegant!

If it works then it doesn't matter how elegant it is.

Just put a comment before the line, so that when you look at it in a few months time, you'll know what it's all about.

I dont know about Visual Basic, but you can simplify;

z= z^2+a+bi (ie drop the parentheses). That's assuming I have understood your equation correctly. The brackets are not changing the order of any of the calculations.

then u make a coding...
