I had some cyst removed when I was about 17 and I had another rupture in my early 20's and now I'm a OB/GYN nurse. The surgery should make your periods more regular and less painful. If you are nervous about having any medical procedure talk to your Dr about it and they should be able to give you all the information you need.

i had an ovarian cyst about a year ago, and was going to have surgery to remove it. i got "lucky" -- mine ruptured and surgery wasn't required. but from the research i did, and talking to my doctor, i didn't get the impression that it would involve a lot of pain afterward... and other women i spoke to who'd had it done just reported feeling a lot better afterward.

sorry i couldn't help you more... but your doc should be able to answer those questions better for your individual situation (everyone is different). good luck in surgery -- a fluid-filled cyst is minor, and it sounds like you should be just fine. :)

I've never had one, but I know for a fact that cysts sometimes cause irregular periods, but not the other way around.
