Great question!!! Being right isn't always worth the fight. Several have given great answers. Thanks for asking this, and what could be a better way of thinking

My guess is that this is largely caused by distortions in the modern education systems.
You get rewarded for being "right", and laughed at or discouraged if you say, "I don't know".
This is so severe a problem that even Ph.D. level experts constantly get caught claiming that things are "true" when the reality is that they are only theories that are either slightly or even not at all supported by verifiable experiments.
It is a good question! It also shows that the difference between religion and science for MANY people is very slight (if at all). Science can easily become a religion due to putting too much "faith" in it.
Only those people who say "we don't know" often can be called true scientists.
A great example is that you cannot prove a negative. So, we can't prove there is no "god", but many "scientists" will claim that this is proven.
There is also no such thing as a "fact" really. Things change in the universe all the time, and all known experiments can give different results under differing conditions.
It takes a high level of intelligence to say "I don't know" but a lot of people don't know that!

I know that i am wrong many many times and I know I will be many more times. It's peoples attitudes and how there raised and how much control they want to have over someone or something. My brother thinks that he is always right and even if you prove to him 100% that he is wrong he will still say that your wrong to try and prove a point and that's when we fight. When I'm wrong i will admit it that's the problem people don't admit it and when people are wrong the one who are right get mad that they don't admit that they are wrong that's what starts it all. But mainly stubbornness and ignorance id say are the main causes of not being able to admit your WRONG!!! lol pathetic huh?

I may be wrong, but that is a very rare occurence - I'm almost always right because I am usually in full possession of the facts before I make a pronouncement on any subject. I am also a very modest and humble person!

lol, that's funny, I always think I'm wrong, but some people are kinda defensive, sick of being pushed around I guess, I know the feeling at times.

I don't know about you, but a vast majority of the time i AM right. it is rather frustrating when people don't knoww enough to back down, though.

its harder to admit that you're wrong and we usually think that we have the right answer to everything. i maybe wrong too.

just like the nfl, mlb, wba, etc., etc., being right = winner, being wrong=loser nobody wants to lose-- am i right? then again the song loser by 3doorsdown was a winner!
