There was a recent newspaper story which said that Cambridge students, closely followed by Oxford students, were two of the best 'customers' of someone who sells essays. Getting three, four or even six A grades does not mean that you are independent, practical, honest, kind, witty or an original thinker. There are often better thinkers/people in slightly less 'elite' universities as the older universities can sometimes be very narrow in what they concentrate on. Some of the best artists, thinkers and businessmen never went to university- they would have probably been annoyed by many academics' narrow thinking.

I live in Britain, where the equivalent is Oxford or Cambridge. Generally, the difference is social class. They get to attend because their families are either nobs or very rich. My nephew has 4 "A" levels, an IQ virtually off the chart and a brilliant memory. They refused him a place at Oxford, then Cambridge. Prince Charles went to Cambridge. He got a 2:2, a lower class degree where you get the degree for turning up to classes and exams. Elitism is alive and well.

I agree here.I know someone who was academically brilliant but completely green on the practical side especially when it came to things like safety in the home and with children, and lack of fear of wild animals etc, and after all an element of fear does no harm in dangerous situations.

well, they are definitely book smart, but that doesn't give them reason and logic.....and if not street smart, then the rest matters little.....Well, if the guy is famous, then he did alright, and you could not use him as an example, and if you are talking about Bush, then you can not talk about him at all.....he is sitting in the most powerful position in the world, he is worth millions of dollars, and haas owned businesses and sold them for optimal worth....and if you are talking about him...what have you done with your life? as much? are you as rich? have you succeeded as well? I would think not, and if it is he you speak, then what would that make you? someone dumber?

i would agree to certain degree. getting to famous school doesnt mean that you will come out with superb brains sharper than any other kids, it depends on how you do in the school too. one could enter a school without much merit and still be more successful than others.
